We had a wonderful time with Ventos Dura Douros, a new travel organization founded by two recently retired brothers, Jorge and Joao, who are passionate about the Douro river area in Northern Portugal. Jorge and Joao grew up in this region with the stunning natural scenery, the charming villages, and the rich history and traditions. They are very friendly and professional. We felt like part of their family, when we were introduced to the local people and their personal friends.
For us there was no better way to experience the delicious cuisine, the wines of the Douro Valley and the mighty Rio Douro as it meanders through the North of Portugal. We learned everything about the production of the famous Port wine and other wines, and of course, tasted some of the best samples.
This one week tour to this UNESCO World Heritage Site offered a variety of natural and cultural attractions along the river. It included museums and visits to archeological and natural parks.
The accommodation chosen by Ventos Dura Douros are handpicked and very special, based on the brothers extraordinary knowledge of the region. We stayed in cozy and comfortable hotels, guesthouses, and wine estates, where we enjoyed the hospitality and the views of the river and the hills.
We highly recommend Ventos Dura Douros to anyone who wants a personal tour to the beauty and the magic of the Douro river in Portugal. Jorge and Joao are not just travel guides, they are also storytellers, hosts and friends. They made our trip unforgettable.

If you have ever dreamed about a trip through North Portugal – the amazing Douro River valley, the ancient mountain villages and of course great wine and food-then get in contact with the Curral brothers. Great guys, genuine locals with a real passion for “their patch” so many connections (how many cousins do these guys have?)
My son Sam and I spent five fabulous days with Jorge and Joao. We weren’t their clients, we were their new friend (we still keep in touch). We experienced so much and nobody was in a hurry.
